Trying to find a spouse.

Is there any way of finding a spouse when you know the reference for the husband's marriage? In this case it is for a marriage in Wolverhamptom in the third quarter of 1860. Thanks Hilary

Hello, It is for John Lovatt, ref Wolverhampton 6b 794. Wife has christian name Harriet. I did not know how to proceed. Hilary

Not on Freebmd, so I don't think you can find it unless you have a surname to search for, as it hasn't been transcribed. You could find John on census with his wife and then look for someone with that first name, birthplace and year of birth on a pre-marriage census, but if she's called Mary and born in London, this won't be as easy as if she's called Anastasia and born in Russia! nell

Would it be on one of the county bmd sites?Failing that there is of course the option of orfering the certificate with the GRO ref number. Would Wolverhampton come under Staffordshire? Glen
