Hi Jools right here goes before I confuse myself again lol My dad was born 1931 in Notingham My Grandad was John Henry Arthur Webb born 1907 Nottingham His parents my great grandad and great nanna were James Webb and Alice Hooton Alice was born in Nottingham in 1888. I cant for the life of me remember where I got that he was born in 1888 in Nottingham and havnt for the life of me remember why ive got his father (my great great grandad) down as James Webb born 1846 (im usually veery carefull as to save everything that may have a connection to my documents on my pc to look at later cant find it now :( ) think thats what ya get for staying up till 6am every morning to solve puzzles of family trees lol.

so what year is on his birth cert or do you mean your grandads your GGrandad may not have been born in Nottingham perhaps his family moved there. Jeanette

Hi Jools I know for def he was born in Nottingham lol cus ive got his birth certificate here and his death certificate. Got his marriage certificate too and dads birth certificate (got my other grandparents too and ive been really lucky touch wood to get all the right ones so far :) ) but think that luck might be changing cus ive confused myself again :( the death I found of James Webb was 1924 and it said nottingham and age 59 I know for def Nanna Hooton was born in 1888 but if that is the right death that would make grandad 20 odd yrs older than her!!!!!!!! so think that is the wrong death. Back to problem of James Webb I too saw the Ashton birth in 1888 and actually saved the index on my pc to check again. I know hardly anything about the Webb family as said before Dad was adopted at 6 yrs and doesnt know a lot so its a bit of trial and error for me and trying to find a needle in a haystack :( Back to the BMD's lol Thank you all for helping me I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Love Angie xxxxxxxxxxx

right just sent off for the marriage certificate for James Webb and Alice Hooton married Jul Aug Sep 1906 hope it is the right couple. is it common for middle names not to be included in the marriage index? cant see there being many james webb marrying alice hootons round the same year tho hey hoping lol. woo forgot my great grandad James Henry Webb died last quarter of 1924 in Nottingam aged 59 yrs eek makes him born 1865 damn now i am lost looks like ill be spending lots of pennies on 4 different birth certificates but then when I get em how do I rule the wrong ones out???????? please let me come to someones house so you can teach me please lol Luv Angie xxx p.s think ill stick to my mums side its way easier lol

Hi This is the only concrete thing I have really this is my grandads birth details I have traced my Nanna Hooton back but not James Webb :( John Henry Arthur Webb b 31 march 1907 fathers name James Webb Engineer Fitter mothers name Alice Webb formally Hooton. But on my dads birth certificate it had different occupation when my dad was born in 1931 to when my grandad died in 1941? Dont know what made me think that any of them were mine really

Where have you got his birth details from? Either you have his birth year wrong or he wasn't born Nottingham. These are the only two births of that name from 1887:- James Henry Webb June qtr. 1887, Ashton, 8d, 533 or this could be late 1887:- James Henry Webb Jan qtr. 1888, Peterbro', 3b, 242. Kath. x

You should be working backwards. Go from what you know. Get his childs birth cert which will show the name of your GGM and then you can find his marriage and that will give you his fathers name.

you need to find him with them I can't see him on the census have you looked for his birth cert you could send off for that which will give name of parents Jeanette

Angela - forgive me for saying so, but if you want James Henry WEBB born 1887, then neither of these two families has him in it. How are we supposed to know whether they're his uncle & aunt?

Unless you have his marriage certificate, no one can guess at which family is right. If you have a marriage cert you will see his fathers name and occupation and then know which one is his family. In fact, why do you think either is right as your ancestor doesnt appear to be listed?

Hi Jeanette im stuck and cant figure out which family is mine !!!!!!!!!! My Great grandad was born in Nottingham in 1887 his name was James Henry Webb. There are 2 possible families for him and I cant see which one it will be !!!!!!!!!!! The first one that I think may be mine are: James Webb b abt 1845 born in Nottingham living in St Mary's Parish in 1881. Head Sarah J Webb b 1854 Lincoln Wife Mary E Webb b 1874 Lincoln Daughter Emma J Webb b 1875 Lioncoln Daughter Hannah J Webb b 1876 Nottinghamshire. Daughter But this family came up too living in the same parish tho different street. Henry Webb b 1838 b same place as above james webb? Head Annie Webb b 1839 Nottinghamshire wife Sarah Webb b 1860 Nottm Daugh Albert Webb b 1867 Nottm Son Eliza Webb b 1870 Nottm Daugh Ada Webb b 1873 Nottm Daugh Joseph Webb b 1878 Nottm son I think the first family is mine am I right and are the second family my grandads Uncle and Aunt do you think?
