Some time ago the 1841 became available on the genealogist site, i searched for my gt gt grandad Varey Johnson. He came up along with another Johnson. Was'nt very keen on the genealogist site so looked it up again on Ancestry a few months later. No Varey Johnson, I searched and searched to no avail

continued so i looked for the other Johnson. Found him. Turned out they were in Beverley house of correction. dont think the Johnson was even a relative but then found Varey transcribed as Nancy ????????????????????? How on earth to you get Nancy from Varey The moral to this tale is dont give up and look for other family members as u may accidently stumble on your ancestor

Well done for finding him! The image looks like Varcy, rather than Nancy!! I see he was a chimney sweep at age 15. I expect being in the house of correction was a doddle compared with his work?! Merry

I dont know about that. I googled the house of correction and it didnt sound very nice. They were'nt aloud to speak to each other so they couldnt corrupt each other and had to walk for miles on a treadmill making chalk Cant say I'd fancy that, perhaps we should bring back Beverely house of correction.
