Actually, what are you hoping to find from the marriage record? It is likely to be the same information as that given on the GRO certificate - although you might be lucky and get some additional info. You say you think your ancestor was Irish? In which case they may have married in a Methodist Chapel because of their religious differences and may not have been regular members of the congregation. Olde Crone

Anne, Have you tried googling wesleyan methodists in liverpool? i have a marriage dec 28th 1878 my grt grt grt aunts was solemised at the english wesleyan chapel in carnarvon the article says it was the first ceremoney of that kind in that edifice (whatever that means!) the trustees presented the bride and groom with a handsomely bound copy of wesleys hymns and a bible.

Montmorency Report 18 Jun 2006 18:54

Are you sure the wedding was at the chapel? At that time most chapels weren't registered for weddings, but many people had the formalities at the register office and then a chapel blessing service. If the wedding was at the chapel, then in 1876 it had to be attended by a civil registrar with a civil register. Either way, the registration should be in amongst the register office marriages for Liverpool or maybe West Derby district. It should be in the GRO index and orderable in the normal way.

Lancashire Records Office has many many Methodist and other nonconformist records, including a great clump called the Lancashire Methodist Society Records. Have you looked on the IGI? I wasnt aware that the Wesleyans were a secretive lot,LOL! Good luck Olde Crone
