I have a marriage cert for John Michael Tynan marriage 21st Nov 1920, his age is 24, making birth 1896. His children's birth certs. also have him as John Michael Tynan. He was apparently known as Mick But I can not find a birth for John Michael in Lambeth or on the 1901 census, There is a birth for a Michael Tynan in 1895, Lambeth vol 1d page 333. and on the 1901 census a Mikiel Tynan, Do I assume this is him ? Thank you in advance for any help, Laraine |

Does the marriage certificate give the name and occupation of his father - does this match up with the entry on the 1901 census? |

I did look at Elizabeth Tynan 1846 Ireland Wife Lambeth and Michael Tynan 1849 Lambeth, In an earlier census they had children John M Tynan born 1877 which wouldn't tie up with age on marriage cert unless he lied of course and Michael J Tynan born 1868 that is the same one on a later census that is the Mikiel Tynan that is a Shoesmith |

Thank you all for your help, I will have to be patient and wait for the 1911 census to see if that reveals any more about my Tynan |

If the Irish Tynans are yours there seems to be a generation missing - as theyd be in the 50s when your chap was born? |

The fact that the son was living in Lambeth when he married does not necessarily indicate that he was born there................. Do you have the names of the witnesses to the marriage? There might be a helpful clue there............... Reg |

Hi Reg, John Michael Tynan's son and daughter are certain that he was born in Lambeth and that he was the second generation to be born in England, As they originate from Ireland. I think I will just have to wait for the 1911 census to see if it sheds any more light, |
