I dont know, why do us south of the river lot have such a bad reputation - or is it you lot north of the river are softies? Actually mine were both sides - so yes, you should check both sides of the river, it really is just a matter of them walking over a bridge or through a tunnel to meet their beloved. My dad reckoned on a calm day he could shout across to relatives on the north side. (If any of you have dock worker rellies you will know how LOUD they speak anyway as they did have to shout instructions to each other and to the guys on the boats) |

Some of mine were from St Luke's. Their brothers were born at St Clement Danes, Westminster. David |

Jen if they turn up in Holborn ( anywhere in the Camden area) please give me a shout . The records office is only ten mins up the road and I've had a couple of good successes up there for an online friend and possible rellie if we can get past the late 1700's You ask them the most absurd question and they pull rabbits out of hats! I'm most impressed! |

Add Holborn to the list too! You could actually stretch it further than the surrounding districs because although Say Camden Town looks a good way up the road with a good trot it would only take about half an hour or so to walk up there. You also have south of the river but to us on the North that's like going to Mars ! EEK! |

Yes Thanx Christine............should have explained this better. I had family born in Shoreditch from late 1750's, married and christened at St Lukes............. I was wondering what other local districts surrounded that particular area of London? As I am turning up other family members previously unknown, which is taking me back another generation...........and I wondered what other districts abutted Shoreditch, in case some of them drifted a little! Don't know if this makes sense? Jen |
