Excellent Merry. I have his reg number and where he is buried. He is on the roll of honour aswell. So hopefully, the more info i give them the quicker it will be. But it depends on how many are ahead of me. I will send for the paperwork. Thankyou all for your replies. Vanessa

You won't need to prove how you are related, but you will have to sign a declaration stating you are the next of kin. The cost of the record is £30. The paperwork they send you states that there is an 8 month waiting list, but about a month ago I received my grandfather's WW2 record after about 3½ weeks! Merry

Thankyou Roy. Sorry for not responding to you answer but my computer went down, if that is the term. My son got it sorted but i was already at work. I will go onto the website you have told me about. Do you know what ID i will need to prove that i am my grandfathers next of kin? His wife and children including my mother have now passed on and has i am the eldest grandchild i wonder what i need to prove it. Please do not think i am ignoring you but i will be in bed after i write this. Just finished work(6am). Thankyou again Roy Vanessa

Because his service is after 1921 you will need to apply to the following address Officers or Soldiers whose regular or reserve service ended between 1921 and 1997 Army Personnel Centre HQ Secretariat Historical Disclosures Mail Point 400 Kentigern House 65 Brown Street Glasgow G2 8EX Tel: 0845 600 9663, option 1, then option 3 I would not think that the national archives will have any thing? for him because of the date their web site is, the is a family history section on the site, http://www.greenhowards.org.uk/ Roy

Sorry. Should have added that he was a sergent serving with the Green Howards Richmond Yorkshire division at the time of his death. Vanessa

Hi. Is there anyone who is associated with the above web site? I am trying to find out as much about my grand father and his death as i can find. I have received his death certificate and it states that in December 1940 he died from the effects of a barbiturate poison taken to induce sleep. There was a PM and an Inquest. I have been intouch with my local Archives musium and they are doing a search for me. What i would like to know is if i sent for any info from the Green Howards would they have this info on his records? He was in a military hospital at the time of his death so i wondered if they would want to keep this off the record so to speak. Any advice please? Vanessa
