Bigamous marriage

An alleged bigamous marriage took place about 1919 between Isabella (Ella) Harvey and Joseph Albert Bramley whilst living in London. I am trying to trace the correct man. The only one I can find was born in Lambeth 27/03/1884. He would have been 10 years older than Ella, which would seem appropriate. I have found him on census 1891 & 1901 but have no proof he is the one I'm looking for. Ella had her first child in 1919 and the father was shown as above, another child was born to Ella by a different father a few years later. This child gave me as much info as was possible and believes he may have spent time in prison for bigamy. I am an inexperienced researcher and would appreciate any help. |

There's no Bramley/Harvey marriage record in the GRO index up to 1920 (inc) Even if the marriage was made void at some later date, the index entry should still be there. Is it possible they were only pretending to be married when the child was born? Merry |

It is possible that Ella was covering her misdemeanours by telling her next child that she had been bigamously married. The second child was told that her father, a dispatch rider died on a ship returning from active service. Maybe Ella had a vivid imagination. Her first child, now deceased, told his family nothing, maybe it will forever be a mystery. Thanks for your help. |
