I have found my family, MCLENNAN, on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census, but before that I can't find them. My gt gt grandfather was John born in Inverness, Scotland abt 1833. I have looked at the scotish 1841 cebsus, and there are few, I don't know which one. Also, his children, my grt grandfather, I can't find on the 1901 census. I have visited my local records office to look at their census records, because I think Ancestry may have left them off. The local records office has census, but you have to know the address where they where living. I only know they where in Liverpool. I have tried different spellings, but still no luck. Regards, Sonia

Is this them in 1881? They should be in Liverpool 10 years earlier, as their eldest son was born there. Do you know Mrs McLennan's maiden surname? Ancestry won't have left anyone off. But there are bits of different censuses that are missing, or so difficult to read that folk can easily be mistranscribed. You are looking for two separate lots 1841 - 1871 and then again on 1901. Perhaps if you gave the information you have from 1881 others might be able to have a look too. It's possible they were recorded as McLe* MacL* or McCle* or even just as Lennan/Lennon. Have you tried looking for first name and age, place of birth only?

Might this be his marriage? Marriages Jun 1869 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- McLennan John Liverpool 8b 449 Possible spouse is Eliza Whittaker, which doesn't sound very Irish! Merry
