Its funny you should say that Christine.. My Grandmothers name was Helena prononced hellanea..... Her Mothers name on all census records are Elen or Elenor, then later also as Helena.... I just thought the census had written it as he had heard it......

Hi Direct from the horses mouth Nellie is short for Helen. Spelt backward Helen in Neleh Phonetically speaking that's Nellie. It is hard to shorten Helen to anything but Hel so Nellie it is. Helen (aka Nellie)
