M y greatgrandfather and his brother served in the Black Watch in WW1 - the regiment is based in Perth but they joined up in Glasgow in 1916 - they had absolutely no links with Perth or the surrounding area. Fiona

General information about this company and their campaigns in WW1 here: www.1914-1918.net/ririfles.htm As far as I know you don't have to be born anywhere particular to serve in the Army, but its probable you would join the company nearest where you lived as that's where the nearest recruiting station would be. nell

I have a Rellie who was in the 1st Royal Irish Rifles. Would he have to be born in Ireland, to be in this Regiment? Or did they mix men from various Counties and Countries like in the 2nd World War. Chris
