Can't read the name of the informant

A long-awaited death certificate arrived yesterday (death in 1846) but I can't read the name of the informant. I am assuming that this person was either a neighbour or maybe a married daughter as I think he lived alone. Would the GRO be able to help me with a better copy, or would the original entry be just as bad?

What have you received? Is it a handwritten or typed copy because that would mean you have somebody's interpretation of the signature. I believe you can ask for a photocopy of an original but I don't know if this would mean paying again if you already have a cert. Do you have access to the 1841 or 1851 census? If so, maybe you could find the informant there by 'walking' the area where the deceased lived and looking for a possible name match. Gwyn

Morning, Gwyneth. It is a photocopy of the handwritten one. On the 1841 census he had a grandson staying with him. I assume that he was probably just visiting. I have tried looking on the 1841 and 1851 censuses for what I interpreted the name as but couldn't find the name in the area. (Sorry - can't give you the name as I am at work and the certificate is at home!!!)
