1) they are non fee paying members and don't realise they can reply to your messages. 2) they have left the site and not removed their tree. 3) they are nolonger able to access the site for some reason - illness, death, etc 4) They have forgotten that they registed with the site and sice changed their email 5) They are rude Take you pick of the above

Angela, I suppose you can't force people to answer, and sometimes they may be away or ill. But it is a pain, when they've put the names there, knowing that's where others will look. I've still got my hot match with 40 of my names, on all sides, and she won't answer. I'm getting a bit scared about putting names on my tree here, because if this person is for real, she is a very close relative, and I really have no idea who she is.

I'm leaning towards Lunar's number 5. Unfortunatly I've had a lot of people never get back to me. I now add at the end please let me know either way. It's not that hard to hit reply and say soryy not a match, best of luck. }:-( Gypsyjoe

She may not know she has a message. I am not getting any emails from GR to tell me I have a message. If she doesn't frequently check the site she may not know you're trying to contact her. Hope you get your message soon and I get the one I sent too. Waiting is not something that I, and I suspect you, are good at. Toni

Know how you feel. I've sent messages toa few people that I know are very good matches, (same name, age, place of birth etc) and get no reply, I email them a 2nd time, and still the same. It's very frustrating Good luck Kath

I'm sure that none of these reasons apply to YOU, but the reason I dont answer some Hotmatch enquiries is this: Hi, can I see your tree, I think we are related. Hi, mine was born in Wales and we must be related (Who????) Hi, can you tell me who she married please? Hi, Ive only been doing my tree for a month and have already managed to put 1500 people on it, and one of them is your Mary Green, born in 1698. So - I dont answer anything which doesnt have details of the NAME (LOL, do they think I only have one person in my tree and automatically know who they mean) and the supposed linking point. Ditto for requests out of the blue about an individual without a bit more detail. And I NEVER EVER open my tree to ANYONE, certainly not to idle browsers! Olde Crone

Olde Crone, Do they really send you mails without a name? I thought the name was always put in automatically as the mail 'subject'. It's useful when they add dob & pob . Sarah :-)
