I have in my possession a christening mug given to my Uncle which says it is from the Officers of the 1st Line, 4th Batallion, Border Regiment. Burma 1917 Does anyone know anything about this group and what they might have been doing there? I've tried the 1914-1918 board, but I can't seem to post a message despite registering with them.

Ali, See what you mean - there's not a lot 'out there' on the 4th Bn Border Regt in Burma during WW1 is there?! The best I could suggest is to look at the Public Record Office for your Gt Uncle's service record (ie his father). Then see if there's a War Diary for the period. What an interesting artefact to have! Regs Annie

It is very difficult to follow the trail of the 4th battalion border regiment as it was a TA battalion and was attached to different units and that is how he ended up in Burma, If you go to regiments.org using this link, http://www.regiments.org/regiments/uk/inf/034Bordr.htm then under history click on The Border Regiment, by Brad Chappell (The Regimental Warpath 1914-1918) Their you will see that this is where it gets difficult, you will need to navigate all the different links to get the info but it is all their. as Keith said above, sometimes use the link 1/4th once you get to Warpath 1914-1918 Good luck Roy

thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! From your replies this morning and being nosy in other people's thread's I have e:mailed several people who might be able to help .. found my grandfather's medal card, .. his promotions by going through the gazetteer pages ... I've also found one of my uncles as a Pilot .. didn't realise that and it is hard to imagine as he was always quite a big man .. he won't be getting in a cockpit in a hurry these days! Whilst I am not really any further on with the regiment, I have a little more info to give my christening mug a little provenance for wherever it finally ends up! thankyou once again .. a little older and a little wiser .. a good day!

They were probably part of the British forces dealing with the Kuki Rising 1917-1919.
