Thats wonderful nell .... hoping something like that might happen to me .... my grandparents lived in a village called Saltaire (whole village is Heritage site) in west yorkshire, it was built by a local mill owner in the mid 1880's for his mill workers ... my grandfather was particularly prominent in the local area so am hoping he might be in one of the numerous books ref the village i saw in the library today xxxx:o))))

A day out in a library, archive or local history centre is a wonderful battery recharger for sad old anoraks like genealogists! Actually just browsing can produce dividends. I was at Kew once, waiting for some documents to be delivered to the search room, and decided to look in the library there. Idly I picked up a book about Gloucestershire, and blow me down, one of the illustrations was the floor plan for the grand house my great-grandfather worked in! nell
