Possibilities: John Savage could have had a child before he married Ann. Or they might have a son who married or an unmarried daughter who is the parent of the grandson John, but who is staying elsewhere on the census and has been mistranscribed. Have you looked for a baptism for John junior on familysearch? you might have to get the birth cert to prove parentage. I had a couple of examples of this in my tree. Gt x 3grandparents of mine, 1851 have 2 grandsons with them. William (son of their son William) and Octavian. But I didn't know who Octavian was, figured he might be William's elder, illegitimate brother. Next census Octavian is staying with an uncle. Census after that, he's dead! So I got his birth cert and found he was illegitimate son of Elizabeth, a daughter I didn't know about until I saw the parish baptism registers in the records office. Meanwhile, same set of gt grandparents have another grandchild, a daughter, on 1861 census. Turns out she is another child of Elizabeth, who is away working as a servant several hundred miles away in 1861. This child is with an aunt in 1851 and in service in 1871, so neither she nor half brother Octavian were ever living with their mother, it seems. nell |

This lot 1861: Abram Savage abt 1847 Newark, Northamptonshire, England Son Pinchbeck Lincolnshire Ann Savage abt 1816 Thorney, Cambridgeshire, England Wife Pinchbeck Lincolnshire John Savage abt 1813 Eye, Northamptonshire, England Head Pinchbeck Lincolnshire John Savage abt 1856 Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, England Son Pinchbeck Lincolnshire John T Savage abt 1857 Spalding, Lincolnshire, England Grandson Pinchbeck Lincolnshire What is your query please? The grandson would be the child of one of the kids, who has left home. Kids were often at grandparents or aunts etc. It was just a way of life then. Id check any other Savages on the same year. See whose son he is likely to be. Of course he may just be staying there the night, he may be with gran cos mums ill, he may have lost his mum and dad to sickness. |
