Found it Adoption as a legal process was begun in England and Wales on 1 January 1927. Anyone 'adopted' before that date was really fostered Elly

Elizabeth Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's very unlikely you will find anything because legal adoptions didn't start till well into the 1900's If you search for Adoption topics on here you should find an actual date. Elly

Hi, I've managed to find some family upto my great grandfather but I've just found out he came from PrestonPans Orphanage (Scotland) and I must admit I'm rather fuddled trying to work out how to find out about adoption papers etc especially as it was in the 1890's. Any help would be great :) Helen
