Makes you wonder if the ancestors would just consider us all a bunch of nosy parkers Kate lol! Still be interesting to discover if any of the five children had the same father though? Nite Kate, Jen

Lou, I have searched everywhere I know to search, and nothing is coming up. I was surprised to discover in the 1841 census, that the family were actually in the workhouse the night the census was taken. Jen

Hi Jen They could well be,,,I have similar situations on a few of my branches...there is no Father Listed on The Birth Certificate,, I am sure it worried them a lot more at that time than it worries us now,,, and most of the time it was a closely guarded secret,It is only now that people like us are *digging it up*... ooops!!!! I am off to bed now Night Night Kate

It is possible, its suprising when I have been down old church records how the same peoples names kept poping up illigitemite (spelling) kids. But I would guess that the first couple are usually from a marriage, the father dies and the mother goes on having more kids with other people. I have a lady who married a Bannister had children and then moved in with another man with the same surname as the first husband but they never married. Are there no church records available on line for the area your looking at? Good luck - Louise

I think you will find the only name on the death cert except for his would be the informant and that could have been anybody.

Born out of Wedlock.........? Don't like the other word!>>>>> Think I know the answer but, would like the benefit of everyone else's experience please.>>>>> I have a family which I have traced back to 1841...........without any father being discovered.>>>>>>> I have the youngest sons birth cert..........NO father! The second youngest son born 1837.........died at 33 years.>>>>Is it worth getting his death cert?>>>>>>>>>>And would it have any/either of his parents names on it? The five children in the family, all have the same name as the Mother. Jen
