I’ve got FTM and have just swopped info with someone via Gedcom. I’ve opened up the huge file of over 4000 names which she sent me ..but I’ve looked at the ‘index of individuals’ and can’t find one single person with my surname. Am I doing something wrong or has she sent me the wrong Gedcom? I don’t want to look an idiot in front of her, although I don’t mind looking an idiot on here lol! Thanks, Mandy :)

If you've checked the index and can't see anyone who may be related to you, then I would say the wrong Gedcom has been sent. Who was the ancestor you had in common - is he/she on the list? Sam x

Thanks Sam, that's what I thought. There is nobody at all on the index with my family name, not even the common ancestor we share. I've had a quick glance down it again and there aren't even any of the minor names from my tree, let alone the main one! Mandy :)

LOL Mandy, I had the same thing happen and dithered about saying anything- then the person contacted me so I had to say I couldnt actually find anyone related to me on there. They were very apologetic and sent me the right one then! Isnt it awful, I always think it must be me doing something wrong.
