Isaiah Hately (should probably be hateful.) I want you to talk me out of this please (lie if you must) because he isn't even a direct ancestor, he's the brother-in-law of my grgrand. Born 1842 Dudley found birth and christening on LDS site (the only one ever in my family) Father Joseph Mother Sarah Married Julia Lee in Dudley in 1863 Nowhere on 1851 or 1861 as Isaiah in all counties. Nowhere on 1871 with Julia but their son is with her parents in Durham shown as born Liverpool. All nice and cosy in Durham in 1881,1891, and 1901 My idea. Assume the father Joseph died and Sarah remarried so Isaiah could be under the wrong family name and his first name so garbled that it could be anything on the transcripts. Answer to problem - search on no first name and no family name with a +- of 5 years in all counties. please, PLease, PLEASE talk me out of this, I wont live long enough and my directs should be more important!!!! Yes Paul, I saw the 'Isiah' on 1881 and went back over with that as well with no family name and still got zilch with regard to a mother 'Sarah'. Then tried leaving relationship blank and still nothing. Although what could have a very bad misunderstanding of his name in what seems to be an institution but I can't figure out how to get to the name of the place or where it is. Anne

Brenda, all of them with Joseph and Sarah as parents? If so that's brilliant, thank you very much. It gives me a lot more names and dates to look for. How on earth do you folks find things on IGI and LDS? I seem to have 27 thumbs on both hands when I try to use that site. Thanks again everyone Anne

Paul or anyone else who might still be awake, did something really awful happen in Dudley (which seems to be in 3 counties) between 1861 - 1871 to cause most of the people to move north? I saw this Sarah, but according to google earth the town of her birth doesn't exist. There are 2 with an O instead of an S one near Edinborough and one about 100 miles away from Dudley. I know that all of my family on both sides were pitmen who followed the jobs from pit to pit after they arrived in Durham but that 100 miles does seem a bit of a stretch. Anne ( who unfortunately is 5 hours behind you and posts at the daftest of times )
