Eh, Laura? Sorry, I did not quite grasp that. Tina

Thanks Robert and Mary. The right click thing does not work with this ad as there is no adblock frame/image option when I do this. Mary, I had not tried the overlay flash suggestion. I will remember that one. Thank you. In the meantime, I seem to have solved the problem by following Merry and Porkie's advice and using the d o t com version of this site. It's much more peaceful without all those irritating things jumping up and down and flashing at me. I think I prefer it here. Tina

Tina I am using Firefox with Adblock and the filterset G updater. Don't know which add you mean. Have you tried right clicking the add and 'addblock frame' this adds it to your filterset. Bob

Tina, the 'long thin ads' are probably Flash ads. When you right-click on the ad, if the adblocker option doesn't come up, go to Tools - Adblock - Overlay flash. That'll conceal them until you change to a new page. It doesn't seem to get rid of them permanently, but I don't have the latest version of Firefox yet.

Well, how come they are bombarding me with ads and not the rest of you? Who did you bribe? I have a pop-up stopper running, but that one ad beats it every time. However, I have just switched to the d o t com site, and you are quite right, Merry and Porkie, ads have gone. How very strange - and how confusing. I'm not going to have lost anything I might want, am I? (Clean answers only, please). Mary - I don't use Internet Explorer, I use Firefox. OK, in future I shall join you via our transatlantic cousins. All this jetting about all over the place - it's most exhausting! Many thanks for everyone's input. Tina

There's a very simple solution to the ad problem - don't use Internet Explorer. I use Opera (with multimedia plug-ins switched off to eliminate Flash ads) or Firefox (with the adblocker extension), and I never see any ads. Over-long website addresses are a different problem. Anyone posting them should use http://makeashorterlink*com or www.tinyurl*com (replace asterisk with dot).

I must have a different set up to you. I dont have anything on the right hand side, just an irritating bingo add on the left between shared trees and find your family. I am on * co * uk. Sylvia.

You need to turn on your popup blocker, or if you don't have one then you can download one free from MSN or Google, Also If you are logged on through the .*co.*uk site, why not use the .*com address this gives you far less adds Roy

Does anyone have a solution to this problem. Sometimes when someone puts a very long website address in a thread - either the heading or an answer - it makes the whole page wider so that all the answers to the threads spread over to the right hand side of the screen. Now, all those irritating ads down the right hand side overlay the thread, so I can't read what has been written. I use Firefox and I have got the adblocker thingy which gets rid of most of the ads, but it doesn't work on the long thin ad on the right hand side. It's really getting up my nose! Tina

Are you using the d o t c o m version of the site? There are less ads on that, compared with d o t c o u k. At the moment, under the ad asking if I'm a Lunatic, there are no other ads (d o t c o m ) Merry
