I visited the place and although no 27 has been replaced by a particularly ugly 70's block, properties to either side remain and give an idea of what my ancestors' home looked like. Down the far end of the road at the time was a smallpox hospital. Sylvia, I live in Surrey, so we're not neighbours, though I spent most of my life in Chiswick, not far from Fulham. The strangely-named Lilla Husset library, underneath the 'Ark' building is the main repository.

Paul There is a row of house's down seagrave rd i would have thought would still be the same as they were in 1880, but i think opposite the Atlas is the hostel. Julie

Hi Paul, I didnt realise we are neighbours. I have a book, Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush Past, which has nothing at all to do with Fulham,but the author, Barbara Denny, has also written A History of Fulham. Have you been to Hammersmith library? It has a bigger collection than Fulham. Regards Sylvia. I`ve just had a thought, Seagrave Road is on the route to the Brompton Cemetary. Might it be worth asking a few undertakers if they have any pics,or anty businesses that may have been in the area? Syl.

I've searched everywhere for a contemporary picture of my g-g-g-grandparent's home or the street where they lived, but with no luck. There are plenty of modern pictures on the internet but none from the late 1870's or early 1880's. I've even been down to the library at Fulham but their collection includes nothing on Seagrave Road. I know it's a longshot but does anybody out there have such an image? Or perhaps Hilmer Street in Fulham where the family also lived. Seagrave Road was off Lillie Road, south of what is now the Earls Court Exhibition Centre. My family's home, No 27, faced a pub called the Atlas which still stands. Hilmer Street was demolished a long time ago but was just to the north of where the exhibition centre was later built.
