Thanks guys - Im even more grateful now Ive looked at the image - god knows how the transcriber managed to get it that good (although Emily is the one thing easy to read!). I wonder why widow is crossed out. Ive found a death now of a Thomas Michael Edroft in 1838 but somehow I dont think this is the father - apart from the youngest kiddie being born after that date, I would have thought his marriage entry or something would show Michael (and such an unusual name for that period - I am beginning to wonder if this lot are using anglicised names and thats why I cant find any Edroffs prior to this few? Possibly German/scandanavian? Is Michael a popular name back then with north europeans?) There is a suitable gap for a second child and Ive a feeling this would be the kiddie. Thank god you felt the same Paul, I always assume everyone is right and Im wrong - but I just cant get my head round his dates and names.

Well after 4 hours of searching, my eyes are closing and Im off to bed. Can any genius insomniac (or overseas cousins) find this family in 1841 please? Ive found them in 1851 - well, the mother and 2 kids. The father was THOMAS EDROFF dob c 1810 born Middx, probably St George. He married MARY CHARLOTTE HANSON born Shadwell, Middx in 1831 at St John Hackney. I can find no sign of them in the 1841 but I find Mary remarrying to a William Summers in 1850 and the family turn up in 1851 with the kids mistranscribed as Caroff! 1851: Children mistranscribed as Caroff: William is a painter journeyman. Emily Caroff abt 1837 St Georges, Middlesex, England Daughter-in-law Bethnal Green Middlesex Henry Caroff abt 1840 St Georges, Middlesex, England Son-in-law Bethnal Green Middlesex Mary Summers abt 1812 Shadwell, Middlesex, England Wife Bethnal Green Middlesex William Summers abt 1814 St Georges, Middlesex, England Head Bethnal Green Middlesex I would love to find them in the 1841 when Thomas Edroff was still alive to see what other kids are with them. The image also appears to have her down as a widow (crossed out) in the occupation column. William's age is down as 7 months, whilst Henry's is 6 Mo - Twins ? More likey the image says 7 years - making him born 1833/34? There is also somebody with some Edroff information on Ancestry World Tree - maybe worth an email. HTH... Paul

Oh well done you guys, what would I do without you. I spent hours trying variations on that lot, even trawled every Emily in Middx. (Course didnt trawl the Emikes doh!). That does look like them, doesnt it and that may have solved a mystery about where William Edroff appeared from. MANY THANKS PEEPS - what a brilliant clever lot you are.

Paul, I did see that chap - he is also on the IGI with submitted info re the Edroffs, mailed him in Aus last night and this morning he had replied, bless. Trouble is, he has confused me even more as there seem to be several Henrys on the go, all born 1840. Considering what a rare name it is, cant believe it can be so difficult. Hi Heather I had a quick look at the tree on Ancestry and it looks like he has William born 1833 down as Henry's father (Henry born 1840) - so no wonder you are confused! Cheers...Paul

Heather... Another time with that sort of search, it might be worth looking for Emi* - which would pick up both Emily and Emike! - Wouldn't pick up Emma (commonly a variation), of course! Christine
