You're right Nell, I only discovered the 'getting started' thing last week (it may have been you that directed me there!) It's all very well for their stats to say that the 'feedback' has been dealt with but they don't count whether it's been 'dealt with' satisfactorily! Have you ever sent anything to Ancestry??!! - they're worse - it's all flashing lights & tinsel but they can't actually ANSWER any queries (like when will they get RG13 1555 on their database - no timescale AT ALL, although it exists on other databases) Blimey, the heat's getting to me - I feel really naffed off with the lot of 'em! I sympathise. I've been suggesting for over a YEAR now that it might be helpful to put the Getting Started section of GR in a more prominent place - like in big bold letters on the top of the homepage and I've just had the usual flannel about valuing my comments and ongoing improvements etc. I have pointed out that at least 50% of the enquiries on the message boards could be answered by the Getting Started section if people knew where it was! nell |

I SENT THIS TO GR THE OTHER DAY: I think the idea of hot matches is a good one but with 600 in my tree, it just can't cope. 600 is not a HUGE tree but I only ever get matches for my 'Baker' names.(6 pages of them!) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE show the date & place of birth on the initial hot matches page - it would be SO much easier to delete matches that are geographically incorrect. I know from the message boards on here that many people feel the same way. Regards Sarah :-) AND I GOT THIS BACK TODAY: Thanks for your email. At the moment we just match the name and year of birth. However, we may make changes to the way system works in the future and add in the place of birth as a match. The problem is that members add the place in different way, or it can be mis-spelt. Some might add the town, others the full address. This makes it difficult to match. By keeping the search broad we feel you have a greater chance of a match. Your comments however have been noted and passed onto our development team. Please let me know if you need any further help. Best regards, Julie The Genes Support Team =============================== DO THEY EVEN READ THE MAILS WE SEND? It looks like she's just seen 'oh, it's a hot match thing, so I'll send a standard hotmatch reply' Gawd, that bugs me!!!! Just had to get that out.....rant over... Sarah :-) |
