got a question about a marriage certificate

in the last bast of certificates i ordered i found somthing ive not seem before on them the year this certifcate was for is 1852 but where it says the age of both partners its has got miner wrote now usally u get either their ages are in the 20s 18s 19s but this is a first for me as ive never seen minor for age on a marriage certifcate, geeze i hope im making sence as has anyone else come across this, if so does it mean they were younger then 15 or so

Susan, it just means 'under 21'. You have been lucky with the certificates you got before, as a lot of them only say 'minor' or 'full age' (which means 21 or over). Kate.

Nooo.....under 21! They will have had to have parental consent. They could be as young as 12 for a girl and 14 for a boy, but I think in the Victorian era is was pretty rare for under 16 marriages. Merry
