Thank you all for your input, don't know anything about Henry's death, which country he was from, which vessels he sailed on so feeling like this brick wall is getting higher! Oh well, will just try and work out how to take this further but once again thanks for all your input. Regards, Lyn x x |

Georgina, I don't know where his father was living at the time of the marriage, I presumed that it was 25 Hook Street Liverpool, it is listed as residence at time of marriage. There is a family living there at the time of wife husband three children and one boarder. I presumed that the address given was for his father John Waisnis but it isn't necessarily is it? It appears this is possibly where Henry may have boarded whilst he was away at sea as you suggested, which gets me no closer to identifying his father's residence etc. :( Lyn x |

Lyn how do you know that Henry's father was living at that address in the september of 1871? If you are taking the address from the marriage cert. it could be a lodging house where Henry is staying between his Sea trips if he is a mariner. Henry's family may be from a foreign country and never actually came to England, is there any indication on the marriage certificate that Henry is a foreigner? Georgina. |

Lyn, I wonder if the name has Eastern European origins and was Anlgicized after the children were born. Do you have them in 1891? I see the Mary Ann is a widow in 1901. What about Henry's death? I see there was another child born called Henry who died. Rose |

Right here goes, on the wedding cert of Henry Waisnis and Mary Ann Whitty, Henry's occupation is 'Mariner'. His fathers name is John WAISNIS and his occupation is 'Farmer'. It is his father that is residing at Hook Street Liverpool. Both Henry and Mary were 22 years old when they married on 24th September 1871. They were married at St Michael's Chapel, West Derby Road, Everton in the district of West Derby and Toxteth Park. Mary Ann's father was Patrick Whitty living at 15 Hampstead Road, West Derby and he is recoded as a 'Police Pensioner'. Their witnesses were Michael Kent and Mary Sinnott. At the time of the 1871 census, John WAISNIS is not living at 25 Hook Street, Liverpool District of St Martin no 40 Scotland Ward but he later moves there by the time of Henry's wedding in September. By the time Henry and Mary Ann have their daughter (Mary Ann WISENESS) in 1873, they have moved to the Courts in Liverpool off Latimer Street. Prior to this, some time in 1872 they have a son John Patrick WISENESS. Sooo... all I have to do now is establish where John WAISNIS Snr (and family if there was one) were living prior to the Hook Street address. Where was he at the time of the census? Surely the family cannot have moved to Liverpool after the census was taken and Henry and Mary Ann meet and marry by the September of the same year. They had to be somewhere before then?? The fact that Henry is a mariner could simply mean he is away to sea when the census was taken and returned home to marry. If anyone here has any clues or any pointers for where I need to go next it would be most gratefully appreciated. Lyn x x |

My ongoing Waisnis problem is no near getting sorted.Got the marriage cert for gggrandparents Mary Ann Whitty Henry Waisnis. Henry's father is John and address given on cert is 25 Hook St Liverpool. Problem is, they must have moved to Hook St AFTER the census was completed but before Henry's wedding in Sept 1871. They must have lived in Liverpool area for Henry and Mary to meet and get married by 1871??? but how the heck am I going to find them? The Waisnis name and Wiseness just doesn't come up anywhere for 1871. With a name like that they could have originated anywhere. What am I going to do? Any helpful suggestions gratefully accepted. :) Disappointed Lyn x x |
