Think the title says it all, but how do you go forwards to the present day, after the census' have stopped? Im trying to trace Reuben Riggott born 1901 in Derbyshire and his own family (ie wife and kids; Ive already got his parents etc.) |

You can look for bmds on Freebmd up to about 1911 or so. After that, its a question of trawling through the GRO indexes, tedious but the only way :-( You can find people in electoral rolls, street and trades directories, local newspapers etc, but this generally means a visit (or several) to the relevant county records office/local history centre. Depending on their occupation etc you might find them at The National Archives in Kew. I expect lots of other people will have suggestions. nell |

Hiya, there are a couple of things you can do, the first will be to trace his marriage (if he did marry), and then any subsequent children, and in the GRO index it will have the MMN, so that way you know you have the right ones. Also, if you have an idea of where he lived you could have a look at the electoral role and trace him through that. However, a long trawl of the indexes is probably your best answer. Also, if he died after 1984, his reference should be easy to find on ancestry, and you could order the death cert and see if that gave any clues as to children, and if you do find death, you could order the will... |

It's really only worthwhile searching forwards with unusual names (like Reuben's). if you had John Smith, you would have no idea if you were looking at the correct marriage or whatever, unless you knew something about him, post 1901, already. There's a death of a Reuben, post 1983. Could he be the son of yours? Name: Reuben Owen Riggott Birth Date: 1 Jan 1927 Death Registration Month/Year: Nov 2004 Age at death (estimated): 77 Registration District: Bath And North East Somerset Inferred County: Somerset Register Number: A7D Entry number: 77 This man's birth was reg Q1 1927: Reuben O Riggott Mother's maiden name Bowles, Mansfield, 7b 192. If you think the place likely, then it might be worth working back from 1927 looking for a Bowles/Riggott marriage. Merry |
