I am looking for the marriage of my GGGrandfather Thomas Duval.... |

I have him in the 1881 census as follows; View Record Elinor Duvall abt 1852 Brighton, Sussex, England Wife Bidborough Kent View Record Mary Elizabeth Duvall abt 1878 Bidborough, Kent, England Daughter Bidborough Kent View Record Thomas Duvall abt 1827 Speldhurst, Kent, England Head Bidborough Kent But I cannot find his marriage to Elinor. I have done a phonetic search and found a Thomas Divall married possible to Ellen Stretton and there was indeed a couple of Ellen Strettons born around 1852, one in Burton on Trent and the other in Wandsworth. No Elinors though. Can anyone help please, I will be eternally grateful T x |

PS I don't have their daughter's birth cert, I have only just found this morning that the name has been spelt incorrectly as Doval, not Duval, which is why nobody has ever been able to get it before. However I do have her marriage cert, which confirms that Thomas is her father. |

I'd go with Stretton... Ellen Stretton abt 1853 Brighton, Sussex, England Servant Tonbridge Kent from 1871 can't find her before that under Helen, Ellen, Ele(a)nor or Elinor |

Thank you both for that, its nice to know I was probably heading in the right direction. One more question. Thomas was quite a bit older than Ellen (Elinor). Do you think he may have been married before? T x |

Now thats interesting, Thomas was a stockman on Mary's marriage cert, and also on 1881 he was the usual ag lab. (I've not joined Ancestry yet so don't have access to census information so far), but it seems he could have been in service first. Thank you so much for your help. T x Just seen your update with Ellen's death. That's where I was going to go next, thank you. x |

Do you have details of their son? |

Don't think that this is your Thomas on 1871 census (transcribed as Dewall but clearly Duvall on original) because of the age but here it is just in case: Charlotte J Dewall abt 1831 Esher, Hampshire, England Wife Tonbridge Kent View Record Harriet P L Dewall abt 1859 Malling, Kent, England Daughter Tonbridge Kent View Record Thomas Dewall abt 1833 Speldhurst, Kent, England Head Tonbridge Kent (Post chaise driver) View Record Tom L Dewall abt 1862 Malling, Kent, England Son Tonbridge Kent RG10/931 Folio 56 p 27 Christina |

PS That 1861 image actually shows the name as DUVALL. Christine |

Tracey, no I only have details of their daughter Mary Elizabeth, later known as Mary Lizzie. She was my Great Grandmother, whom I remember very well. I was checking up on the correct marriage so I could see if there were any siblings. Christine, it's probably not my Thomas, though being in the same area could well be related in some way. I will keep that for future reference. (Thank goodness for excel!) T x |

1891 Thomas Herbert Duvall abt 1880 Southborough, Kent, England Inmate Tunbridge Kent Image looks like age 4 though, so that would put him in 1887/8. I can't find any other record of him though! Perhaps.... Births Mar 1884 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Duval Herbert Thomas Tunbridge 2a 667 1901 Herbert Duvall abt 1883 Southborough, Kent, England Lodger Hollingbourn Kent |

The 1861 Thomas Duvall was an ag lab - to go with your stored info just-in-case. Christine |
