I am really struggling to find out anything about my gg uncle and his family. After the 1901 census, I seem to lose him the place that he was born and raised. Reginald William J Gardner, born 1886 - birth registered in Witney, Oxfordshire. I am currently trying to find out about his wife, children etc etc, and the only marriage I have come across so far is in 1907 in Wandsworth. All the family that I have managed to find out about (mainly my direct ancestors at this point) have stayed in the area, and although I dont want to assume / rule out the marriage as his or not, I am really struggling. I have searched the boards for anyone else with Reg in their tree etc, but am at a dead end. Any suggestions? |

Hi Karen, the only way to go forward is the BMD's and electoral rolls? As there is no census it will mean having to buy the certs to find out if its him or not Im afraid. Suzanne Most genealosy goes backwards and only if your lucky enough to have family knowledge is it easy to go forward from the 1901 census. |

1901 would make him 15 - Isnt that too young? Fits the area though . . . . . |

I did think of the age and though it is unlikely it is still possible? You also have to take into account possible mistranscriptions and name spelling, for instance another marriage: Name: Reginald J W Gardiner Year of Registration: 1911 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Bristol County: Avon, Gloucestershire Volume: 6a Page: 448 Laura B Johnson 1911 Oct-Nov-Dec Bristol Avon, Gloucestershire Laura E Phelps 1911 Oct-Nov-Dec Bristol Avon, Gloucestershire as you can see it will be very hard to trace someone after the censuses unless you have more knowledge of them. Dont mean to put the dampners on things! |

Karen, do you know for sure that he got married? And if so, is that because somebody told you? And if so, is it possible that they could give you more information if you ask them again? If you don't know for sure, then it could be that he never got married at all. You could try searching for his death, and also see if there is another birth registration that is a possible for the Wandsworth marriage. Kate. |
