David, It sounds to me more likely that the Shoreditch Charles Street is the correct one, because they would have to be living in the parish in which they were married - Shoreditch. Regards, Jacquie |

You're probably right Gwynne:) It doesn't actually say of the parish on the marriage cert but it would say if it was into another district wouldn't it. Heyho. |

When my great x 2 grandparents married in St James Shoreditch in 1861 they gave their addresses as two differently numbered houses in Charles Street - I'd just assumed this was the Charles Street in Shoreditch (as you would) but looking for another address on an old map have just found a Charles Street in Saffron Hill very near to where they were living at the time of the 1861 and to where their families were in 1851 & 1861. Is it more sensible to think that they were living in the Saffron Hill Charles Street even though this wasn't specified? |
