I think it might be a good idea to put up a list of those available, so I will start one! Lynn :- ) |

I think Moes answer is a good one - Why don't we have a SWAP SHOP? Someone must have a CD that is of use to someone. I am looking for one which did the name COOPER but I missed it. Has anyone got one? |

I can see the idea of making a list of what's on the CD's SOUNDS like a good idea.........BUT...............the producers make sure it isn't too easy to discover what's on them!! On the front it might say, Coventry 1871 Census (RG10/3175 - 3178) Nottinghamshire Parish Records (Vol 1) Marriage Licences 1543-1667 (extract) (the above copied from a CD cover).....but there's a hell of a lot of faffing about to discover what is actually on there! The census bit is OK if you have Ancestry, but if you have Ancestry, then you won't be looking for the Coventry census on a CD in the first place! The Nottinghamshire PR's is probably two parishes and all the people beginning with A, and the Marriage Licences is everyone beginning with either Q or X from Much-Adoo-About-Something in Nowhereshire! Bear in mind that if its FREE it's probably not worth much - otherwise they'd want to sell it. I've got one CD which has marriages for a couple of Gloucestershire parishes I have relatives in, but that's all. I try not to be swayed by 'gifts' on magazines. nell |

why don't you all start a swap shop? for instance someone with Norfolk Kent and London cds will swap for Lancashire, and so on, then everyone is happy....Moe |

If anyone has Scottish info on cd's I'd be interested - in fact if anyone has the free discs that used to be issued with FTM 2005 I'd like a copy, can't find mine since we moved house. |

I have not found any thing yet but don't usually buy magazines. I think the idea of unwanted C.D.'s free to a good home thread is a good one. Then we could add to it if we get something we can't use. |

There must be someone who needs the areas listed. I am looking for Lincolnshire and Westminster in the early 1800's. I think I will keep on looking out for them. I wouldn't buy the magazine just for the cd though! I like the idea of using them to keep birds off your seeds, or they could make a mobile! Lynn : - ) |

Yes very useful - I hang them in the garden to keep the pigeons off my seedlings :-) More seriously, I have found one or two which had extracts from old directories covering areas I am interested in, but wouldn't have bought the magazine specially for them. There have to be interesting articles as well. |

More often than not they cover the wrong areas! However, there are some old maps included with this months Your Family Tree (Issue 39). Limited coverage (only 4/5 counties) but - just for a change - TWO of them are where my rellies were from! They had some directories a couple of months ago that kept me quiet for a couple of hours, but they are not something I need to go back to. I tend not to install any trial software, I'm happy with what I've aready got. I look on these CDs as a bonus, I don't tend to buy a mag just for the CD. |

Would it be an idea to put a list on here of what CD's you have and what's on them, in case someone else can use them? Just a thought.. |

Merry, if you've got all those cds and not found any info, it doesn't sound like they are much use.... unless anyone knows different! Lynn : - ) |

My cousin buys loads of mags. She gave me all the CD's from them.......must be at least 50......I haven't found anything on any of them of use to me, or to her! And that's with both of us having quite big trees...... Suppose it's just luck really........ Merry |

I've got about half a dozen and nothing yet. They are interesting, just not the places I need. Maybe I'm just hard to please. |

Has anyone ever found the free cds that are attatched to the various Family History magazines, to be of any use? I have only got a couple at the moment and althougth they are in teresting, I haven't found anything of use to me. I always check the cds on the front of the magazines, to see if any have records that are relevent to my search, but no luck so far. So, has anyone else been able to find anything with them?
