I have been searching through BMD records and notice that on some occasions when you search for any quarters all the four quarters for the year do not always appear and you only have two or three quarters show up, Is this right. Gwen |

Are you looking at the GRO images with the sort-of search (first & last names on page - not always allowing for added-in names being out of sequence)? or the FreeBMD database? If it's the FreeBMD database: they're doing a great job, but there's not much after about 1910, yet. If it's the images - if there's an out-of-sequence name been taken as last on page, then there may appear to be no names for that quarter. When that happens to me, I use the links at the top to get into that quarter and letter (noting roughly how far through the list the name seems to come on ones that have actually come up easily, so that I don't have to wade through the lot in the ''missing'' quarter). If when this happens you click on any quarter, then click on the year, at the top of the page that you are viewing E.G. You are here: Search > England & Wales, Birth Index: 1837-1983 > 1900 > Q1-Jan-Feb-Mar in this example click on 1900, then all the avalable quarters will come up, click on the quarter you want, then you have to search by clicking on the initial of the surname, then as Christine said, (noting roughly how far through the list the name seems to come on ones that have actually come up easily, so that I don't have to wade through the lot in the ''missing'' quarter).
