I have been having a discussion with my son`s mother-in-law. She says she remembers when she was at school in history lessions she was told that there used to be 31 days in April! I have recieved a birth certificate for my great great grandfather stating that he was born on the 31st April 1849? Who is correct? History buffs get your books out!!! Vanessa

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April 'April was originally the second month of the Roman calendar and had 29 days. Julius Caesar's calendar reform in 45 BCE resulted in April having 30 days and becoming the fourth month, as the year now began in January.'

Check the date on the cert. I know this sounds unlikely, but I was checking the date of death of a gt gt grandma, and she seemed to have died BEFORE she registered her husband's death. I rechecked and the death was in April, but it genuinely looked at first glance like March. nell

Helen. I think the correct date was 31st March 1849. I have looked at trhe date of registration and it says the 4th 0f April 1849. So I think he was born in March and not April. I think the register was having an hangover at the time!! But my sons mother-in-law sat on his side. Vanessa
