OH NO!! NOT ANOTHER BIG BROTHER FAN?? My house is full of them. I am going to follow the ripon one up. It does sound posh does`nt it! Mind you the rest of the family seem to have hit hard times after the wedding. They married in 1847, had a son in 1849 then the bride dies in 1850. I have her burial details and they or the wedding register have her age wrong. The certificate says she was 21 when she married but the burial details sats she was 21 when she died. Have to go hunting on the census to find her and see what is what. Vanessa

Oh wow, Ripon Cathedral - have you been to Northallerton? It would be lovely to get a photo copy from the entry for Ripon - mind you the cost has gone up from 40p to 50p a copy, cor, I dunno - price rises eh? Theckston is very close to the brewers name (Theakston) and it's certainly the right area, be interesting to follow that through - beers all round when you find out (hmmm, I don't like beer!!). Did you read the thread I pushed up (under Kim in the North)? Going off to watch the eviction on Big Brother in a minute so if you don't hear back from me I'm not ignoring you, I'll be back on at 9.30 (ish). How's work going? Snowdrops

sorry for the delay in answering snowdrop!! this bloody computer is playing up!! I will look at what you have told me and search from there. I found a couple of newspaper reports on another rellie(the other side of the family) from doing a cheeky e-mail to York archives. The other certificates had me laughing!! The birth one was for my great great granddad who was born in 1849 Selby, yorkshire. In them days they seem to think that April had 31 days in it!! They said his birth was 31st april 1849 and he was registered 4th april 1849!! The marriage was intresting! My great great great grandparents married in Ripon cathedrial in 1847. The father of the bride was a GUNSMITH!! And one of the witnesses was someone named THECKSTON!! the brewry one wonders??(I think that`s how it is spelt!). Vanessa

Oh wow, that opened a can of worms didn't it? I asked a while ago on the boards about Post Mortems and Coroner's Reports and I shall nudge the thread up for you to get some ideas of where to look. Ian Glendinning answered and he gave a very comprehensive reply which included Inquests. Now, if you have to refer to newspapers Leeds central library are very good and as well as the main holidings in Collingdale there is also the British Library in Wetherby which of course is just down the road from both of us. Any luck on any of your other lines? Snowdrops

Hi Snowdrop. I knew you would be out there somewhere!! I sent for a birth in selby, a marriage in ripon and a death in richmond. All at Harrogate. I found out that my grandfather took an overdose of barbiturates to help him sleep. Now i have to find out if he intended to sleep or have a permenant sleep. There was an inquest so i will have to findout where it was held! I do hope i find out where they held the inquest. They took two weeks to sort out because they where all over the place. Vanessa

Hello Vanessa, Yes, I do remember - glad you got that sorted. So you obviously sent for the death certificate - was it from Harrogate? How quick were they? The last lot I got from there was about 4 days and that was at the height of WDYTYA part 2! Did you find out anything interesting from the certificate? Snowdrops

Hi snow drop. I hope you remember me. You helped me in the search for my grandfathers death certificate. The records said he died in York but it turned out to be richmond? I had to contact Harrogate to get the certificate? I want to let you know that i have recieved his death certificate now!! Vanessa
