Heather, I already sent you a message (in reply to your email). Thank you SO much!!! I'm 99% sure that my John was born in Corcloon and seeing that Lieutenant Ovens was 'out of' Corcloon -- perhaps there is a connection! Have to get back to work. :( THANK YOU!!!!!!!! (Only excited because we started looking for this family when I was 11 years old!!)

Lisa, you may need to get someone to look him up in Kew. Have you tried to see if he left a Will? Have you tried A2A to see if there is any mention of him? Or the Times Digital Archives? These are Wills on NA documents on line: Will of Ann Ovens, Widow of Brixton, Surrey 12 March 1833 PROB 11/1813 Will of Charles Ovens, Gentleman of Brixton , Surrey 09 January 1824 PROB 11/1680 Will of John Ovens, late Captain in Her Majesty's 57th Regiment of Foot of Corcloon , Fermanagh 22 June 1849 PROB 11/2095 Will of John Ovens, Seaman on the Merchant Ship Bombay 30 March 1843 PROB 11/1976 Right regiment, wrong rank/date? A son possibly?

I think you'd need to get his army records to find his birthdate and place. nell

Trying to find out the family members of Major John Ovens (1788-1825) who was in the 57th Regiment and among other places, served in Australia. Trying to determine if he was related to Lieutenant John Ovens, also in the 57th Regiment. Lastly, trying to determine if either were related to 'my' John Ovens. Been searching for my John since 1977 (since 1968, technically). Have googled everything I can think of....know lots about the man, but not his family. Thank you.
