Lynda I have just looked at quite a few entires of marriage for your names and crossed referenced them but no luck yet. it is just a thought but I had trouble finding a marriage certifcate for one of my rellies and found it in the end because the surname had been spelt wrong the name was Garrett and I kept looking for a cross reference entry under this name but found the entry under Garret with only one T. It could be worth thinking it could be only one L in Phillips. I will keep looking when I have time, I know how frustrating it is!!!! Gwen |

Many Thanks for the replies. Yes that is Anns christening, no the marriage is'nt theirs, in 1858 Thomas would only be 15. Ann used Phillips as her 'married' name and george as her maiden name, but am now thinking they did'nt marry. |

Found this on IGI - but the groom's surname's wrong... ANN GEORGE Spouse: THOMAS ELTON Marriage: 19 SEP 1858 Saint Georges, Darlaston Near Wolverhampton, Stafford besides it's also: Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church. So may have no validity whatsoever. Christine |

How confident are you that they did actually get married? Or that they married before the children were born? Christine |

Lynda Hoped you say that - sorry can't help any more at the moment - will have another look for you later. Just so long as you're as certain as you can be about the names, I'll keep looking. Looby |

The certificate I have just received is for Joseph Briscoe and Ann George, not 'my' Thomas. I have their daughters, martha my g.grandmother, birth cert which gives her mothers maiden name. |

Lynda - sorry - how certain are you that Ann George married Philip Thomas? I have checked all marriages for Phillip Thomas for Staffordshire in the period 1851 and 1861 and the only ones that could have married an 'Ann' are as follows: Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Marriages Jun 1858 Brookes Ann Dudley 6c 98 Phillips Thomas Dudley 6c 98 Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Marriages Sep 1858 Phillips Thomas Smit_ Kings N 6c 570 Williams Ann Kings N. 6c 570 Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Marriages Jun 1860 HAYNES Ann Dudley 6c 200 Phillips Thomas Dudley 6c 200 Regards Looby |

I haven't looked yet, but for the one you have just ordered.......you always need to check the index for the other name before ordering. The groom should have the same vol and page number as the bride. Is the groom on the cert you got, Joseph Briscoe or Henry Maybury? Merry |

I am really disappointed. This is the 5th time I have bought a certificate believing it to be the marriage of Ann George and Thomas Phillips, only to find it is the wrong one! The info I have for them is: Ann George brn abt 1841 in Willenhall Staffs Father, believed to be, Joseph a curry comb maker. Thomas was brn in 1843 in Willenhall Staffs a love child to Ann. In 1851 both were single, Ann with her family, and Thomas with his Uncle Henry. By 1861 Ann and Thomas were married and both living with Uncle Henry, have a hunch that Ann and Thomas were cousins. In 1862 they had their first child also Thomas. I have tried looking for the marriage on both ancestry and free bmd. Details of my latest mistake is below. Will check later as I have to go to work-many thanks Ann George Year of Registration: 1859 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Wolverhampton County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands Volume: 6b Page: 625 |
