Can anyone advise me how to go about getting a coroners report in Scotland please. It's for my gt grandmother in 1914. Thanks Kim |

FYI, there are no coronor's inquests as such in Scotland - that applies to England & Wales only. Sudden deaths in Scotland are reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Your first port of call I would suggest to be their website and to start asking questions: http://www.procuratorfiscal.gov.uk/ If the system is anything like England & Wales then there is a 75 year closure rule, though you shouldn't be affected by this in 1914. Even so, not all records were systematically kept, and even if they were, things like floods, fires or even a stray nazi bomb during WW2 may have gotten in the way, so you may well find out nothing survives at all for this period you are looking for. The best advice generally is to see if you can find a report from a local newspaper of the time, as these almost always cover local coroners inquests in a fair bit of detail. Most large libraries have back issues of their respective local rags kept on microfilm in their local studies units. |

Micheal Thanks for that, but on my gt grandmothers death entry, at the side it is handwritten, by someone else 'see coroners entry Vol 11 page 41 Dec 16th 1914', but I don't really know enough about Scotland procedures to know where to obtain this info. Kim |
