My dads family moved to Aus as a child so he doesn't really remember his family back in England. Not much is known about any of the family and no-one is really in contact especially his mothers side. He said he remembered an Aunt Vi and an Aunt Bea, well came up with neither except maybe as middle names. Vi's I thought might be a Violet, but I came across another member on the hot matches with a woman with the same name, born the same year, same district and same middle initial. He also said he thought that Vi went to Canada. Anyway sent this woman a message and got one back, she doesn't know her grandmothers parents, her middle name was Viola and she moved to Canada. I've written again with more info, but what does everyone think? Do you think it's a match? What are the odds of having so much the same. The woman in question that we're both looking at is a Minnie so again not a lot of them. Hmmm, here's hoping hey. Gypsyjoe

that sounds good to me, but then I am an eternal optimist when it comes to finding rellies

Sounds good to me as well. Never discount anything until I find positive proof it's wrong! Calling Aunt's (or anyone) by their middle names is a common practice - they even use them on the census just to keep us guessing

Woody that's what's happened with Bea except on the cenus it has her name as Helen so I don't know which one is her first name Beatrice or Helen. As for Vi well her name was Minnie and that was also her mums name so I can see why she would have be called her middle name. Gypsyjoe

Worth keeping an open mind and searching both (singly and together as well). I found one called Queenie on a census - couldn't find a birth, marriage or death or another census entry. Then I thought wonder if she was Victoria (she was Queen at the time), nothing. Eventually found her under Beatrice - youngest in the family they must have referred to her as Queen Bee! Down-side was I then discovered it was completely the wrong family (James Low b. Aberdeen) but eventually got the right one - he was in Aberdeen all the time with the name wrongly on index as Law! Now have lots of details about the family of the other James all of them b. Cornwall and Wales! Such is life. Just thought, I know a man who always called his late wife Beattie - her name was Elizabeth, and I have Helen's called Nellie and Ellen. Well, nothing like complicating matters!

Thanks Woody good point, the said contact is talking to her dad. Yes they certainly liked using different names. Mum just received her parents marriage certificate her mum used betty on it. Still I'm keeping my fingers crossed, it'd be nice to finally find some of my dads rellies, there's a couple that I've not long ago found from his dads side. As for my mums side well there's tonnes seems they kept in contact even though they were on the other side of the world. Enjoy your weekend everyone, I'm off to the next town to socialize can't do it here nothing to do, no where to go. Just 16 more days and I'm back in the UK. Yippee! Gypsyjoe

when I started doing this I found a ladies birth cert and put the details on here , I was then in contact with 2 of her daughters and even they did not know she had not been using her birth name, till I told them.So dismiss nothing.

Hey Laura I think this woman might be just beginning she doesn't know anyhthing about the rest of the tree except that Minnie had a sister Bea. Spoke to mum last night and she remembers my Gran mentioning a sister Minnie. I will have to contact my uncles again and see what else they remember and wait to see what she finds from her dad. It's the waiting I can't do. Have a good feeling though. Gypsyjoe
