Ron Thanks for that one I had not realised you could do that. Auntie loved the tree by the way thankyou so much for that, it now adorns my kitchen wall around two corners, but it's great I can stop and look see how much is on there. Best wishes Pmaid

To see both files at the same time you have to minimise them, click on the icon at the top right of the screen, the one that looks like 2 squares one on top of the other, next to the red X. Ron www.genealogyprinters*com

Valerie on the File you are using go to Top left hand side of page you will see File click on it then look down the list you will see Open click on it this will then take you to a small window with all your FTM files shown just click on the name of the file you want to open. You now have two files open. one showing the other hidden but the name should be at the bottom of your screen just click on it to make it active. See how you get on.

Valerie, is it a copy that you paid for, or was it free, perhaps with a magazine? Mine was free with a magazine and it was the full version for a few weeks then reverted to the basic version which does only let you have one file open at a time. Kate.

thanks again so if I have one open what do I have to do to keep that one open and open up another is it complicated

I have the same version as you Valerie and I quite often have two files open at the same time. It's only when I try to open a third one that I get the same message as you are getting.

when I try to open another file I get a message saying this action will close the file you already have open !!I do have FTM 2005

Kate

Kate Report 8 Jun 2006 23:15

If you have the full version I think all you have to do is click on File and then open whichever one you want. If you have a free version like I have then it might only let you have one file open at a time, but if that is the case it will tell you when you try to open the second file. Kate.

Just open another FTM file. You can only have two open at a time though if you try to open a third one it will close the active file. But it does warn you so you will not lose anything.

how do you have more than one file open at the same time, because I want to put some names onto one file and take them off another , and if I could do that could see which ones to delete thanks --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
