1841 Scotland - is it working for you on Ancestry?

Hi - I've only just noticed that there is the 1841 SCOTLAND Census on Ancestry - think it just went on there today - anyway, I've tried several attempts to use it but it keeps returning me to a page that says 'The search request could not be completed because insufficient information was provided to Ancestry.co.uk. If the search request originated from another web site, please contact that site's administrator to resolve the problem.' Any idea what's wrong? Has anyone used it yet?

Well - its definitely on their list of recently posted databases (was added today) but as you say it doesn´t appear that you can search on it yet

Thanks, Elaine - I was thinking it was just me! Will try again tomorrow - maybe it'll be up and running properly by then.

I've only just noticed the Scotland 1841 too, and that smug little boy with his piece of rope is on the page again. We always get him when they are almost finished updating the site with something new. Maybe should leave it until tomorrow. The site will probably go off again when they do get it finished. Do you think they will eventually put all of the Scottish census online? Kath. x

It's working for me but doesn't have the originals which I prefer to use. I don't really trust other's transcriptions. Margaret

Appears to be index only - images not available.

Woo, sounds exciting! Though I think I already found all mine for 1841 on Scotland's People anyway - but I hope they are going to put the other years up too. I am off to have a look but I bet the kids want to go on the computer in a minute... thanks so much for the tip Kate.

Hmmmm, Just checked if it was working for me and as said previously it is only the indexes. Found who I expected to where I expected to but mistranscribed surname. BUT - I did get the street name where they lived which I have never gotten before so that was a bonus. Wonder if the enumerators' sheets will ever be shown? Does anyone know? Snowdrops

Yes, it would be great if they do put all of the Scottish ones on Ancestry - I'm fed up of having several different subscriptions - and running out of time to use up my credits...much better to have everything in one place. Maybe they will show actual census pages at a later stage, rather than just the transcriptions? Oh well...am off for a little poke around on there now...

Managed to use it yesterday, but no joy today. Back to Freecen - it also has 1841 and 1851 and obviously free!

After reading this thread last night, I had a look and - WOOHOO - found answers to two of my mysteries that hadn't shown up on Scotlandspeople. Chuffed or what! Pam
