I had a great aunt Harriet, who my parents knew as a 'maiden aunt' so it was a great surprise to find she married ( have cert.) and is shown with her husband in 1901.......... What happened to him?.... If he went back to his birthplace ( Channel Islands) he wouldn't show on GRO index, would he? He married with name Frank Norman BOSSY age 29 in 1897 and may be the Francis N.nephew in 1881. Other than search each quarter for a death after 1901 census,- and he may just have left her and not died until much later, is there another way of finding him, Dead or Alive? |

I googled the channel Islands family history society for another member and found the addresses for the Jersey and Guernsey record office. It might be worth asking them or the society itself for help. Ancestry has the channel Island's censusus if you want to find him pre 1881. |

Thanks for that Annie. I have him on census prior to marriage but have no idea what happened to him after 1901 census. My parents used to visit Harriet in the 1930s but Mum always thought that she was a spinster, so it's a bit of a mystery. Gwyn |

Hi Gwyn I've just had a quick look on Ancestry and can't find any more information than you've already got, sorry. I hope someone can give you advice on Channel Island BMDs. Mandy :) PS: Did you find your husband's aunt in time to warn her of the late arrivals??!! |

No Mandy, we didn't. We even e mailed aunt's daughter in Toronto but she was away. We knew they'd arrived eventually, as our grandson received a card from the holiday makers ! Perhaps they should have phoned aunt direct, instead of causing panic,.. lol. Thank you for trying to help. Gwyn |

You could try searching through the National Probate Calendar if you think he may have left a will. It is available at some record offices etc. on microfiche and / or bound volumes and because it goes by year rather than quarter it is quicker to search through than the GRO death indexes. Also, you might spot some relative of his in there who appointed him as an executor, which would tell you when he was still alive at least. (I am assuming that the surname Bossy is relatively unusual?) Kate. |

Thank you Kate. That would certainly be less daunting than searching the death index. I have viewed the Calendar in book form in Hampshire. I will find out where I can search it near here ( nr Folkestone) Gwyn |
