I tried googling. I couldn't find a Staatsarchiv but this is the one for Magdegurg: Stadtarchiv Fachdienstleiterin Dr. Maren Ballerstedt Bei der Hauptwache 4 D-39104 Magdeburg Telefon : 0391/ 5 40 25 15 (that would be +49-391-5-40-25-15 from outside Germany) E-Mail : archiv [] magdeburg.de the usual symbol goes in the e-address. *** I had another idea - and found this page: http://www.c-wortmann.de/staatsarchive/archiv/bl14.html which shows Magdeburg as one of the four main ones, along with Wernigerode (can recommend an excellent B&B there!), Merseburg, and Dessau. Hi Ian My German geography and language abilities are some what lacking. Would you know where I can find details on how to contact the Anhalt local staat archiv? John

I have German ancestors from Baden-Württemberg. I recently made great progress by contacting the local staat archiv. I was put in touch with a distant relative.

The LDS have some stuff for Anhalt, but I imagine it's all in German. You can order it from your nearest Family History Centre. http://makeashorterlink*com/?B24821B3D (replace asterisk with dot) http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp

Hi John The IGI has some german records on it. I tried Braeseke as the more unusual of the names and got 7 german entries. Helen

I think there have been similar threads before. You could try putting ''German'' in the thread-search to see what comes up. I think someone quoted a German genealogy site which might be able to help. Christine

I'm trying to find information on 2 people and their families. The first person was born c1859 in Anhalt, Germany and married in England in 1889. The marriage certificate says that her father was a farmer (presumably in Germany). The second person I am presuming was born in Germany (c1881) as she is a neice of the first person. Are there any census records for Anhalt, Germany that may be equivalent to those we have in England or are there any other sources I can investigate in the hope of obtaining the information I want? I have the surnames (Braeseke and Reinhardt) but not much more to go on.
