ok-got her-1818......well the record speaks for itself-the mothers name only-she was born illegitimate-both names would be there or just the fathers in the early 1800's if parents were married. |

another conclusion from viewing the rcords is that griffiths doesnt have one mention in st leonards in any form up to early to mid 1700's so they are incomers. |

Alter, I have printed it off - I REALLY don't know what it means yet but about a third of those names are in my tree and my families all seem to 'intermingle', so, as you say - It will come in useful one day. Thanks, Dea (now TOTALLY confused.) Xxx |

Well, it sounds as though her father was Thomas Griffiths but he was not married to her mother? Or are you looking for something else? Kate. |

I seem to remember Rebeca's christening was St Chads. - Sorry I don't really know Rochdale, but St Chad's does keep cropping up. The marriage cert just says Parish Church, Middleton, Rochdale. Dea x |

I have a marriage cert = 1840 - Rebecca Butterworth to George Wood in Rochdale. I have these people from 1841 to 1901. With them in 1841 + 1851 (I think, is Ann Butterworth - unmarried - I presumed she was Rebeccas mother and the IGI said she was.). On the marriage cert - George Wood's father is James Wood - I can't be sure I have found him at the moment but that is not a problem - REBECCA's father is named as Thomas GRIFFITHS - Mechanic. Can anyone throw any light on this please? Dea x |
