Mt grandmother was Elizabeth Broddel but her marriage certificate says Lizzie Broddle. Apparently her teacher at school told her that her surname was spelt wrongly! Pauline |

The only way to be sure is to get the certificate(s). But I do have a great-great-great aunt Annie who became Elizabeth Anne on her marriage cert and subsequent census entry. nell |

The child is called Selwyn, not really a connection! I think that it would have been very strange if he hadn't have been married twice because my mum said he was such a ladies-man!! Also i have dug out a photo of him which says 'To Ann with love Bert', this being a further clue to the marriage. One more thing, anyone know what district Bedwellty is in? Thats where the marriage took place. |

Well, it could well be them. I suppose the only way to find out for sure is to get the certificate. Same for the child's birth, too. My great-grandfather is Sidney on his birth certificate but Sydney on his marriage and death. His mother is Jennet on her birth cert but Janet on her marriage and death. So it is certainly possible. I've been looking for evidence of my grandad having married once before he met my nan. I was looking through all the years and found in 1944 a Bert Bevan married a Annie E Higgins. Could this be my grandad even though his birth name was Bertie, and his 'wife' i thought was called Elizabeth Ann? What i was wondering is if people didn't give their actual names when getting married. I have also found a child born in 1946 with surname Bevan and mother's maiden name Higgins, could this be theirs? I was considering getting the marriage cert, but would like any opinions on this situation! thanks, Liz |
