I was contacted via this site by a third cousin 18 months ago. After the first flurry of excitement, I didnt hear another word for many months. Then had an email apologising and saying he would soon send me all the stuff. Yesterday, 18 months later, I got it!! Loads of photos, copy certs etc - wonderful! Olde Crone |

Great news! In that sort of situation, you can never know what might be causing a delay unless the other person tells you. It's easy to forget that a serious illness or family bereavement or something could easily come between someone and their good intentions. A reminder that we all need to be patient, even if someone doesn't come back to us with info we're waiting for. Christine |

Like Christmas isnt it ?...some people may wonder what the fusss is but sod em,i fully understand ....getting a wedding photograph of my fathers uncle whom he and his siblings had heard of but never met (hush hush) was incredible- he had died in Gallipoli and his new bride died six months after,childless...It was a tragedy and my grandfather had obviously felt guilty by surviving the same battle, and he wasnt talked about, but now my dad knows... |

Through GR I am in contact with a lovely lady on my husband's side of the family and she sent a photograph of his grandfather who none of the family had ever seen. My husband was thrilled to bits when he saw it. It was uncanny as we had often wondered who my husband resembled, when we saw the photograph, we knew. |

Yes, fantastic, especially as I had not even known of the existence of this family until my 3rd cousin contacted me. He is descended from a brother of my Gt Grandfather. All the family said this man died aged 40, a bachelor. I checked the records and indeed, in 1900, when he died, he is shown in a street directory as being a bachelor, living with my GGF.I didnt bother with his death cert, because I had more important and informative ones to get (I thought). But of course I had not factored into all this that Street Directories are published months/years after the info is collected. I now know that he married late in 1899 and was dead by March 1900, leaving behind a pregnant young widow. What is now puzzling both of us - this man is buried in the family plot and there is no mention of his wife.(i.e. beloved husband of...) We cannot understand why because my GGF supported his brother's widow and child financially, so there was no family rift. And even more spooky - my third cousin knew all about me, including the names of my children, which he got from his grandmother - I didnt even know he existed! Olde Crone |
