Thanks everyone - I'm going to try all those suggestions. In answer to the questions - I've searched from 1920 - 1927 I haven't thought of a second marriage as my Grandmother was only 18 when she had my uncle in 1926 Thanks for the info re the Isle of Anxholme - I will certainly try that. There was one Goodwin/Johnson marriage in 1923 and I bought the certificate (stupidly) as it was not a Clarice but a Jane and he was a florist not a steel worker. My Grandfather was in the RAF during the first world war so I should find something about him amongst that lot too - but not a marriage. |

I think Jennifer means the Isle of Axholme. This is an area around Lincolnshire/Yorkshire border and contains places such as Haxey, Belton, Kirton in Lyndsey, Epworth etc. There is a mailing list on Rootsweb specifically for this area and if Jennifer subscribes to this there are others on the list who hold quite a lot of information on parish records, bmd information etc and are usually very helpful. How far either side of their first childs birth have you searched? where is the isle of Anxom? |

Do do mean that you haven't found a GOODWIN = JOHNSON marriage? Have you searched GOODWYN? I noted that there was a GOODWYN child born with m.m.name Johnson in Lincolnshire. Could it have been a 2nd marriage for Clarice, in which case you won't find a JOHNSON match but that would still be the maiden name shown on her children's birth certificates. Have you searched AFTER the birth in 1926? Gwyn |

My Grandparents were the arbiters of everyone's morals in our family. My grandmother , particularly, was an incredible snob and looked down her nose at all sorts of people. After searching through the 1837 website I really cannot find their marriage and have to conclude that they weren't married! Could this be the reason???!!! Nobody in the family can remember seeing wedding photographs and they are both dead now. If anyone else can find them I'd be delighted - their names were Harold Goodwin and Clarice Johnson. The marriage would have been before their first child's birth in 1926. My cousin says my Grandmother came from the Isle of Anxom (spelling?), my Grandfather from Stoke and they lived in Lincolnshire all their lives. |
