Yes, I was just going to reinforce Kate's advice. All these results could be very plausible - but they could still be wrong! We spent some time trying to make sense of one bit of my husband's family. We had found someone's research which nicely joined on to our Josiah Scantlebury and his wife Elizabeth (Behenna). It wasn't until I got to see the image of one of the earlier censuses, where Josiah appeared as a widower, that we realised that the research was probably fine, but that it linked to Josiah's first wife, Elizabeth Behenna, not his second wife, Elizabeth Jenkins, and that our link was the second wife, not the first!! Dear Kate, shall take your very sensible advice, also never thought that Emma could be a second wife...........thanks Barbara..xx |

Barbara, I would definitely advise you to get at least one of the children's birth certificates to check mother's maiden name. And don't forget to consider the possibility that Emma was a second wife and not the mother of all the children, unless you have the couple together on a census before any of the children were born? My partner has some Taylors in his family tree so I know just how difficult it is to be sure you get the right ones. Kate. |

Lucky you didn't start from the 1871 census (and it's on the image, not just the transcription!): Source information: RG10/4579 Registration district: Dewsbury Sub-registration district: Morley ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Folio: 21 Page: 37 Household schedule number: 244 GSU Number: 847144 Robert Taylor abt 1841 Morley, Yorkshire, England Head coal miner Emily Taylor abt 1844 Morley, Yorkshire, England Wife Sarah A Taylor abt 1864 Morley, Yorkshire, England Daughter Rebecca Taylor abt 1866 Morley, Yorkshire, England Daughter John J Taylor abt 1869 Morley, Yorkshire, England Son Beatrice Taylor abt 1870 Morley, Yorkshire, England Daughter Christine |

Lancs BMD has just finished doing something to the Births bit. I found this one... Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1845 Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Reference BOWDEN Emma Salford Greengate Salford GRE/23/46 Christine or GRO: Name: Emma Bowden Year of Registration: 1845 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Salford County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire Volume: 20 Page: 336 |

this looks plausible on Lancs BMD... Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1861 Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference TAYLOR Robert BOWDEN Emily Rochdale Register Office or Registrar Attended Rochdale RM/14/112 I've seen Emma used as a diminutive for Emily. Christine PS - it doesn't show up in teh Ancestry FreeBMD search because Name: Emily Bowden Year of Registration: 1861 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Rochdale County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire Volume: 8e Page: 109 has only three names - only one of which is male, and it isn't Robert Taylor. |

Since the Mother, Emma came from Salford, it isn't out of the realms of possibility that they married back in Salford - the brides home parish. Elaine ;-) |

if you order the birth cert you will be able to find out the mothers maiden name and this may make the finding of the marriage easier. |

When and where was eldest child born? Marriage probably took place about a year prior to this. Sylvia. |

All the information I have is from the 1881 census, this says Robert Taylor, born 1841 in Panallbridge nr Rochdale Emma his wife born 1843 in Salford their eldest surviving daughter which I know about was born in Pendleton nr Manchester all the other children were born in Morley in west yorkshire the 1871 census has them all as born in Morley if I could find marriage details I could find early info, also would know Emma's surname, the only clue I have and it is a long shot is that one of their sons was called Bowden, which is not a usual christian name hoping someone can help..............Barbara..xx |
