My family came from both sides of the river and it is only a short distance. Some of mine married in East London but went to live in Southwark, the other side and vice versa.

I have found the entry for the birth cert and think it is the right one. How frustrating is this I looked at my search record I keep and realised the Quarter for O-N-D 1885 was not ticked so went back to look at that quarter and found the entry. Do you agree after a while when you have looked at so many records you become brain dead. I am so glad I found it. Thanks for everyones input.

Sorry for not replying sooner but trawling through more records thanks for all your replys I guess the reference for the Cert is note the one as it should show Bethnal Green back to searching. Why do we do this?

You might find this helpful, I printed it up and it has been useful for me in tracing all those London people!!! Registration Districts in London www.fhsc*org*uk/genuki/REG/Ind*htm (remove * insert .)

St Saviour is Southwark which is south of the river where as Bethnal green is north of the river.

I have an ancestor baptised St Saviour - it is in Southwark which I believe is just over the river from Bethnal Green and the East End. ages from gravestones are notoriously wrong! May have been added years later when the money was available and relative either couldn't remember or probably didn't know true age of deceased

I am trying to trace the birth Cert of my Grand mother I have searched the GRO birth records from 1880 through to 1890. I have only found one Jane Grover born in 1887 St Saviour. I have worked out her age from the census but they also state she was born in Bethnal Green. She died in 1916 age 31 which works out to her being born in 1885 but no birth register then. I took the year of death from her grave stone. Is it possible that St Saviour is a district of Bethnal Green anyone know?
