There's the free BMD for England and Wales and a few others where we can also find out varying degree's of information fabout our families, but what about for Scotland and Ireland? Does anyone know of sites where I can do look ups for these? I'm starting to feel snowed under. Gypsyjoe |

For Scotland before 1855 try Scotsorigins - it's the IGI site, but be wary of information that is submitted as it's sometimes iffy. The original Parish records you can tell because there's always a film no. at the bottom. From 1855 on Scotlandspeople is superb. It's pay to view, £6 for 30 credits, costs 1 credit to get a list of the names then 5 to view the one you think may be correct. You can soon rack up the credits though and sometimes it's best to give less info - just need to watch how you use it. The info on there is great though and when you see the image you can also print off the copy of the image - thereby saving you the cost of the actual certificate unless you particularly want it. If you're looking in Aberdeen or North East then ANEFHS have an online MI index. If you see a likely name there I have most of the booklets of the full inscription and so does Sue Hazzard on here. Look on General board, Bridget Brennan had a thread on there about Irish and Scottish records and there was a place in Glasgow as well. Put Irish rip off in the content box at top of page and you should find her thread that way. Hope that helps, Christine |
