My family bible is with a family a few doors from my mum, great you'd think, but no, we are not aloud to see it my g-grandfather married twice and his second wife out lived him she then gave it to one of her sons by her first husband so not even the same family now they are not even allowing us to look at it as it came from Ireland it would be a great help there are at least three of us in the family trying to do our tree I'm hoping some people (not only in my family) will read this and get a conscience and try to get the bibles they have back to the families they belong to or even let them know and see them Debbie

Hi Debbie, I understand your gripe and it is obviously very personal to you even more so because of your own circumstances. I too wish that eavery family bible could get back to the family it once belongd to and Im sure that there are plenty of people that feel the same and that is why you see them being shown on here occasionally. with regard to your own circumstances???? Do you think that your family bible could of possibily been sold and they dont want to admit it and so just say you cant see it? Unfortunately these bibles can fetch some money and the temptation must be there especially if there is no real family link? Suzanne

Some people dont realise how important this sort of info is to us. I have a Cousin and her Father my Uncle cleared my Nans House, so she my Cousin has all the Photos and stuff, I had a terrible job getting some of them sent to me on the proviso I sent them all back , after copying them. Seeing as they are of my family too and she isnt interested in the Family Tree really you would think she would at least give me half of everything. I have another Uncle who has a Family Bible in the Loft and keeps promising he will give it me , but so far nothing, I have thought about searching up there myself but dont think he would let me .

Hi trouble is he is dying of Cancer so I cannot really push it, And his Wife thinks it is all a lot of rubbish so I am afraid if he dies she will throw it all out.

Yes, I have a check on ebay from time to time, looking for family bibles with any of my tree connections on it - these things get passed around and sold from person to person - and I think it's sad that family bibles end up with a non-related collector. I once saw a family bible advertised on ebay that contained photos and a birthday inscription...I couldn't help but research it all and ended up with the whole family tree of that person going back through the censuses - I emailed the vendor and gave him all the info and said it might help if they added the new family background info to his advert (or at least say the whole tree info had been researched)...but they didn't bother. I was so sad - I thought that had they mentioned the family surname it might have ended up back with a family member.
